We investigate synaptic physiology with a dual focus:

i) the machinery that integrates energy supply with demand, and,

ii) the machinery that integrates activity-dependent pH changes with synaptic strength.

We aim to discover the genes that code each element of these machineries and to build biophysical models that allow a better understanding of their influence on human health and disease.

We work with fruit flies, mice and iPSCs – systems that provide advantages with regards to genetic malleability and experimental tractability.
